Augsburg loses its defender Cédric Zesiger, who leaves the club after one and a half years. The 28-year-old transfers to BSC Young Boys, after having already played for the Young Boys from 2019 to 2023.
What happened?
Zesiger returns to his Swiss homeland, after having played 44 competitive games for Augsburg. FCA sports director Benni Weber said: „Cédric approached us with the wish to return to his Swiss homeland for personal reasons. We wanted to accommodate this wish in the interest of the player and found a good solution for all parties with the Young Boys.“
Why it matters
The transfer is an important step for Augsburg, which currently stands 9th in the Bundesliga, with 43 points, 12 wins, 7 draws, and 15 losses from 34 games, and has a recent form of LWWDW. The club receives around 3.5 million euros for the transfer, which is an important contribution to the budget.
What comes next?
Augsburg now has to find a replacement for Zesiger to strengthen the defense. The club still has time to sign a new player before the new season starts. With 45 goals scored this season and 61 conceded (-16 goal difference), Augsburg needs to improve its defense to be successful in the next season. Augsburg is currently 46 points behind leaders Bayern München, which shows that the club still has a lot of work to do to be successful again.
