Keven Schlotterbeck stays at FC Augsburg and remains vice-captain FC Augsburg retains Keven Schlotterbeck in its squad. The defender rejected an offer from 2. Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and will stay until the end of his contract in 2027. Schlotterbeck will also continue as one of the team's vice-captains.
Why did Schlotterbeck stay at Augsburg? Schlotterbeck, who has been with the Fuggerstädters since summer 2024, had established himself as a regular starter but lost that status towards the end of last season. His contract runs until 2027, and a free transfer would have been possible next summer. However, the 29-year-old decided to stay in Augsburg and continue as vice-captain.
What does this mean for Augsburg? With Schlotterbeck, Augsburg retains an experienced defender who led the team as captain in 16 Bundesliga matches last season. Alongside him, goalkeeper Finn Dahmen and Fabian Rieder also serve as vice-captains. The Swiss Rieder was only signed from Rennes last summer and was newly included in the circle of deputies by coach Manuel Baum.
What is Augsburg's current situation? Augsburg finished last season in 9th place in the Bundesliga with 43 points from 34 games. In the current preseason, the next match against FC Schalke 04 is scheduled for August 30, 2026.
