FC Augsburg have secured two loan signings on the final day of the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga club brought in Arijon Ibrahimovic from Bayern Munich and Juma Bah from Manchester City, both on season-long loans with purchase options.
Who are the new players?
Arijon Ibrahimovic moves from Bayern Munich to Augsburg. The 20-year-old attacking player, who will wear the number 21 shirt, completed the full summer preparation with Bayern's first team. His contract in Munich was extended until 2028 before the loan to Augsburg was arranged. Ibrahimovic returned from a loan spell at 1. FC Heidenheim and is now set to gain regular playing time in Augsburg. His new club is paying a loan fee of 500,000 euros for the versatile forward.
Juma Bah arrives from Manchester City, where he signed in January 2025. The 20-year-old defender has already gained loan experience at RC Lens and OGC Nice. In Augsburg, he is planned as a replacement for the departed Keven Schlotterbeck, who moved to Southampton. Despite his young age, Bah brings experience at the highest European level.
What do the officials say?
Christoph Freund, sporting director of Bayern Munich, explained the decision for the loan. "We sat down with Arijon and agreed that it's best for his development if we loan him out for another season," said Freund. "He is a young player with great attributes and he needs regular playing time in this phase."
Benni Weber, sporting director of FC Augsburg, expressed satisfaction with the signing of Bah. "With Juma we have signed a talented player whose size, physique and attributes fit us very well," Weber stated. "He already brings a lot of match practice and valuable experience at the highest European level despite his young age." These statements were reported by Traunsteiner Tagblatt.
How does this fit the current season?
The new arrivals join a team that has made a perfect start to the season. FC Augsburg sits in 4th place in the Bundesliga table with three points after the first matchday. The team won its opening game and has a goal difference of +3. This positive foundation provides a stable environment for the young players' development.
The next challenge awaits on September 6, 2026, with an away match at Eintracht Frankfurt. Their opponents currently occupy 8th place in the table. Fans can follow the rest of the season on our fixtures page and check the current table situation in the standings section.
What role do the purchase options play?
Both loans include an option for a permanent transfer. FC Augsburg can therefore decide after the loan period whether to sign the players permanently. This flexibility is important for the ambitious Bundesliga club. It allows for an extended observation period before making a final financial commitment.
The sporting leadership around Benni Weber has thus found two targeted reinforcements for specific positions. While Bah is meant to strengthen the defense, Ibrahimovic brings creative potential for the attack. Both players are 20 years old, fitting the strategy of developing young talents. The next opportunity to see the new signings in Augsburg colors will be on September 6, 2026, in the away match at Frankfurt.
