Marius Wolf is available again for FC Augsburg's Bundesliga away match at SV Elversberg on Saturday. The 31-year-old winger has recovered from illness and is back in full training, as head coach Manuel Baum confirmed.
Wolf missed the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich last weekend, having started every game of the season prior to that. "Marius is back training normally again, he has recovered," said Baum. The return of the experienced wide man gives the coach more options for the lineup in Elversberg, where the team will travel sitting sixth in the table with eight points from five matches.
Attacking personnel issues
Augsburg's attack continues to be without several players. Noahkai Banks is out with an external ligament injury in his knee, and Alexis Claude-Maurice has a thigh muscle issue. Banks' recovery will take "two, three, four weeks at least," according to Baum. "He feels great, but we have to be a bit careful there," the coach explained. These absences force him to juggle his options. "You have to do a bit of puzzling," Baum admitted, speaking of the "dilemma of choice" when picking his starting eleven.
Alongside Wolf, options for the wide positions include Young-Woo Seol, who made his starting debut against Bayern, as well as Anton Kade, Mert Kömür and Arijon Ibrahimovic. Robin Fellhauer, who set a Bundesliga record with his goal after 8.4 seconds against Bayern, returns to his former club Elversberg with this match.
The team aims to carry forward the positive momentum from the draw against the record champions. The match in Elversberg kicks off on Saturday at 15:30 CET and will be broadcast on Sky. A win could see Augsburg solidify their connection to the top group in the Bundesliga, as they trail leaders SC Freiburg by just five points. The current standings table shows the tight situation in the middle of the pack.
