FC Augsburg extracted more value from its budget than any other Bundesliga club last season. An efficiency analysis by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung places the Fuggerstädter at the top of the league's cost-per-point ranking.

Spending €125 million, Augsburg accrued 43 points in the 2025/26 campaign to finish ninth in the table. That works out to roughly €2.9 million per point, putting them ahead of second-placed SC Freiburg, who spent €143 million for 47 points. Bayern Munich finish last in the efficiency table, the analysis states, with expenditure of €881 million costing €9.9 million per point.

15th in Spending

In the pure spending table, Augsburg ranks only 15th. Fourteen rivals invested more money, with just three clubs operating on a smaller budget. One of those was FC St. Pauli, who suffered immediate relegation with the league's smallest outlay. VfL Wolfsburg, who spent €8.7 million per point, also went down. The data shows the financial discipline that has kept FCA in the Bundesliga for over a decade.

The current season has begun promisingly for Augsburg. After three matchdays, Jess Thorup's side sits third in the table with seven points. Their most recent outing was a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, with Michael Gregoritsch scoring both of Augsburg's goals. The Austrian, with three season goals, is the team's current top scorer. The next challenge comes on Saturday with an away fixture against 10th-placed Werder Bremen.

Regional Roots

Success on a relatively modest budget is a hallmark of the club. Since 2021, Global Football Holdings has held a 45% stake in the professional department, which also runs projects in Portugal, Belgium, and Denmark. The regional connection remains strong, however. This link to the so-called Fuggerstadt is also reflected in the name for players and fans, known as Fuggerstädter.

The FAS analysis does not include 1. FC Heidenheim due to a differing financial year making comparison impossible. For Augsburg, the evaluation confirms the chosen path. The club heads into the international break with a positive record of nine goals scored and three conceded. Full team statistics are available in our stats. The next competitive match is on 19 September in Bremen.
