Michael Gregoritsch has become FC Augsburg's all-time top scorer with 38 Bundesliga goals. The 32-year-old forward netted twice in the 2:2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on September 12, 2026, surpassing Alfred Finnbogason's previous record. Augsburg sit third in the Bundesliga after three matches with seven points, two points behind leaders SC Freiburg. Gregoritsch equalised in the 50th minute after a pass from Hennes Behrens and scored his second shortly after from a Fabian Rieder corner with a header. Patrik Schick levelled for Leverkusen in the 89th minute. After the match, Gregoritsch said: „36 km/h brauchst du im Kopf“ and described his goals as „ugly but beautiful“. He promised to treat himself to an evening drink and remember the team, as he had pledged during training camp. He also announced plans to bring his longtime friend Fritz Grampelhuber, former cook for the Austrian national team, to Augsburg to prepare traditional Austrian dishes like Käsekrainer for the squad. „We are not a table team. We are a game team“, Gregoritsch stressed, adding that despite the temporary lead, there is still plenty to improve. Head coach Manuel Baum echoed this, stating the team focuses on winning the next match, not the league table. Gregoritsch has not yet framed his jersey from the Leverkusen game, though he once imagined doing so in a photo with Lionel Messi. He admitted to being a bit careless about it. Augsburg now prepares for their away fixture against Werder Bremen on September 19, currently ninth in the table. For more, visit our fixtures, squad and standings pages.
