FC Augsburg is set to lose another player. Mads Pedersen, the 29-year-old left-back, is expected to join Hertha BSC on Sunday. For trainer Stefan Leitl, the Dane would be the long-sought reinforcement on the left defensive side.
Pedersen is still under contract with the Fuggerstädter until 2027, but apparently no longer plays a role in the plans of the Bundesliga club. In the past two seasons, the former Danish international has only played sporadically, with seven appearances in each of the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons. His market value has decreased by more than half in the past 12 months.
Pedersen moved from FC Nordsjaelland to Augsburg in 2019 and was loaned to FC Zürich for six months in 2020. In total, the 1.78-meter-tall left-footed player has played 120 official games for the FCA, scoring eight goals. For Hertha, the two-camp-strong and flexible left-back would be the next building block after a successful season start.
The FC Augsburg is currently in 9th place in the Bundesliga and has scored 45 goals and conceded 61 in the current season. The title win is 46 points away. The Fuggerstädter have lost their last two games and are currently in 3rd place in the table of the last five games. Currently, Alexis Claude-Maurice, Sima Suso, Tim Breithaupt, and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw are injured.
