FC Augsburg has restructured its youth department to better support the development of young talents. At the heart of this restructuring is Matthias Heidrich, a former professional who has been appointed as the new sports leader in the youth performance center. The 48-year-old previously served as Sports Director at FC Erzgebirge Aue and was also responsible for youth development at 1. FC Köln before his playing days. During his active career, Heidrich played over 300 professional matches for various clubs including Alemannia Aachen and VfL Osnabrück.
Additionally, Claus Schromm, the former head coach of the youth team in Augsburg, will now serve as a sports coordinator. This role change aims to strengthen collaboration between coaches and young players, enhancing their development both on and off the field.
Philipp Tschauner, a former goalkeeper, has also taken on an important new position. He is now the coordinator for goalkeepers and previously worked at SSV Jahn Regensburg as both a goalkeeper trainer and coordinator. His responsibilities include developing young goalkeepers in the academy.
„With Matthias and Philipp, we have gained two personalities with extensive experience who will bring new impulses to our daily work through their professional expertise. We are convinced that both will continue to drive positive development at the Paul-Renz-Academy and in the transition phase,“ said Benni Weber, Augsburg’s Sports Director.
